Layer Studio

THE STUDIO

Thoughtful by design.

Layer Studio is a creative production studio supporting small and medium-sized businesses across the UK. Our focus is the visual content and brand assets that make a business easier to understand and recognise.

Illustrative business and community context

One connected creative conversation.

We believe useful creative work starts with understanding what matters to your audience. That means asking practical questions, setting a clear scope and making the thinking behind the work easy to follow.

Bring an early idea, an existing brief or a challenge that needs defining. We can discuss the right starting point without pretending every business needs the same solution.

Let’s talk ↗
01

Who we support and the needs we take on

Layer Studio works with small and medium-sized businesses across the UK that need visual content and brand assets produced with care. We focus on projects where the brief is still forming and the client would benefit from structured creative guidance rather than a fast, template-driven output. Typical requests include brand identity refinement, marketing visuals, and production-ready assets for digital and print channels.

The proposed service areas span identity, campaign assets, digital design, print, packaging and creative support. Explain which part of the work you need, and distinguish design from implementation, media buying and manufacturing. Those responsibilities need explicit agreement; they should not be assumed from a service title.

  • Brand identity refinement and asset packaging
  • Marketing visuals for campaigns and channels
  • Production-ready files for digital and print
  • Illustrative examples only; actual scope agreed per project

How to evaluate whether we are a good fit

Start by explaining whether you need a new direction, development of an existing idea or production of defined materials. Each starting point needs different inputs and decisions. A fixed brief can be useful; an open brief needs room to resolve the creative question before detailed production is scoped.

Consider your appetite for collaboration. We work best with clients who can share context, make timely decisions, and provide clear feedback. Discuss how much involvement is practical for you and who can approve each stage. A focused production task may need different review points from a new identity; the working arrangement should reflect that difference.

  • Confirm whether creative direction is needed, not just execution
  • Check if your timeline allows for review rounds
  • Decide how much collaboration you want
  • Book a brief exploratory call to test fit
03

Working principles that shape every project

Clarity comes before speed. We invest time in understanding your business, audience, and objectives so that creative decisions are grounded rather than guesswork. This means asking questions early, documenting decisions, and avoiding assumptions about your market or customers.

Transparency is non-negotiable. You will know what is included, what is excluded, and where decisions need your input. We do not hide scope boundaries behind vague promises, and we flag risks or constraints as soon as they appear rather than after work has started.

  • Clarity before speed in every decision
  • Documented briefs and agreed scope
  • Early flagging of constraints and risks
  • Feedback loops built into the schedule
04

What information we need from you

A useful brief is the foundation of every project. We need to know your objectives, target audience, key messages, and any non-negotiables such as brand guidelines or compliance requirements. Clear objectives give everyone a reference for reviewing the work and help identify changes in direction.

You should also prepare existing assets and references. This includes brand guidelines, logo files, previous campaigns, and examples of work you admire or wish to avoid. If you do not have these materials, we can help you gather them, but the process will take additional time.

  • Objectives, audience, and key messages
  • Brand guidelines and logo files
  • Reference examples and past campaigns
  • Compliance or non-negotiable requirements
05

Boundaries, exclusions, and handover

We do not provide legal, medical, or financial advice, and we do not guarantee outcomes such as sales increases or engagement metrics. Creative work is iterative, and results depend on many factors outside our control. Use the project agreement to record the deliverables, review process, responsibilities and acceptance criteria, so the work can be assessed against a shared brief.

Handover includes final files, source files where applicable, and a brief summary of decisions made during the project. Anything outside the agreed scope, such as additional revisions, new deliverables, or ongoing management, will be discussed separately and agreed in writing before work begins.

  • Final and source files delivered at handover
  • Decisions summary included with handover
  • Out-of-scope work agreed separately
  • No guarantees on sales or engagement outcomes

Your working checklist

  • Define your objectives and audience before the first call
  • Gather brand guidelines, logo files, and reference examples
  • Decide how many review rounds you need and budget for them
  • Identify any compliance or non-negotiable requirements
  • Prepare a shortlist of what you want and what you want to avoid
  • Confirm your timeline allows for iteration and feedback
  • Decide whether you need creative direction or pure execution

Questions worth asking

What size of business do you work with?

We support small and medium-sized businesses across the UK. We focus on projects where creative guidance adds value rather than on high-volume, template-driven work.

Do you offer ongoing retainer packages?

Creative support can be discussed around recurring needs as well as a defined project. Share your expected volume, priorities and approval capacity. The arrangement, availability and commercial terms need to be agreed; the website does not prescribe a standard retainer package.

What happens if my brief changes mid-project?

Scope changes are discussed openly and agreed in writing before additional work begins. We flag impacts on timeline and cost early so you can decide whether to proceed.

Make the next conversation concrete.

Bring the questions this page raises, the materials you already have and the decisions you need help making. The brief planner turns those starting points into a document you can review and share.
